If the obligation is not met within the period (including any permitted extension), the licence holder becomes liable to pay back the duty saved, along with interest, and in some cases penalty proceedings under the FTDR Act. A Bank Guarantee or Bond executed at the time of licence issuance secures this liability, and DGFT or Customs can invoke it on default.
